"My handcrafted items may not be precision-perfect items made from a machine, but I think there is great beauty in the imperfections."
Amanda Hagerman doesn’t shy away from edge. In fact, she’s most drawn to geometric shapes inspired by shards of rock and mountainous ridges that appear in a landscape—the foundation of her uniquely daring works. To achieve the raw, perfectly imperfect look of her metal adornments, Amanda looks to the past. The ancient art of lost wax casting, to be exact. Sculpting malleable wax by hand, she can achieve the precise surface texture she desires. By the time the piece is handcast and finished, each emerges with a unique of soul that can’t be replicated. It’s a time-intensive labor of love, but Amanda wouldn’t have it any other way. Slow made, she believes, keeps things sharp.< less
