One of the first things customers ask Lydia is, "Where'd you come up with that name?" Argaman & Defiance, the name of her silk-dying and scarf-making business, comes from two places. First, Lydia spent her childhood in Defiance, Missouri — much of that time spent learning and exploring at the nature preserve nearby. Second, "Argaman" is the word for the meaning of Lydia's name: "the maker of purple dye". Both these factors heavily influence her artwork and designs — designs that she creates with 100% silk and colors with natural dyes extracted from tree bark, roots or leaves. Her work gets people talkin', and with good reason.
