“I like getting to know and developing a kinship with my mini ecosystems. And I like to feature a natural element in my creations as a memento from the environment.”
Many artists draw influence from nature, but few have found a way to actually integrate it into their creations. Not literally, anyway. Not quite like Katie does. She makes pieces of jewelry, crafted with resin-framed dried flowers, dill leaves and other odds and ends of nature. Each necklace or pair of earrings holds a little bit of the outdoors, keeping it preserved and beautiful for as long as it's worn — which will probably be quite a long time, we're guessing. Because with these pieces, you're wearing a piece of the earth, not just something that nods to it.
