Practical Potter
Binghamton, NY

“The very best compliment I receive is when people tell me they use my pottery every day. My mentor once told me that he keeps my bowls on his kitchen counter.”

When Georgia was just a teenager, she found herself a creative outlet with the potter’s wheel. For 15 years, she kept coming back, finally realizing that this was indeed her happy place—and low and behold, her rustic-meets-modern ceramics made other people all giddy too. Part of the art is refining her pieces so that they are incredibly useful. So she’ll make version 1.0 of a minimal ceramic tumbler, then use it for a while. If a tumbler can’t hold a tasty 12 oz. beer, for example, then she goes back to her studio to keep working on the design. Now that’s our kind of road testing.
