"The beauty of hand-sewing is that it's portable—on a nice day I'm never working indoors. I'll set up a "pop up studio" in the park nearby, or anywhere that I can get my bare feet in the grass."
A typical day for Gina begins like this: rise, brew a cup of tea, crank up the music, throw open the window and wait for the breeze to blow in a fresh gust of inspiration. Then she sets to work, slicing and stitching away at hand-selected hides with a set of tools passed down from her grandfather. Gina must’ve also inherited gramps’s leatherworking skills, since she’s been a pro from the very beginning—she sold her first line of handbags to a local Boston shop when she was just 16. Nowadays, Gina is still carrying on the family tradition of perennially smelling like leather and patchouli. Oh, and making snazzy bags, too. < less
