Trade: Clay Knitter
Locale: Whitemarsh Island, Georgia
"I approach my work primarily as a sculptor rather than a traditional potter. Making things from this point of view allows me to be free to experiment and allow my spontaneity to guide me."
Sitting in her cozy studio on a Georgian island, Hadley chugs along, making mugs and bowls by hand––no molds, no casting. It's labor intensive, sure. But it's also an important part of her process. (Her dog Buddy is another important part of the process.) Hadley loves pushing the boundaries of ceramics with designs like her cable-knit series, a tactile collection that brings all the comfort of a fuzzy, cozy cable-knit sweater to clay bowls, mugs and vases. But if it weren't for encouragement from artists and fans? Hadley wouldn't have had the bravery to open that cozy shop of hers at all. < less
