“For spoon rings, I take an antique silver spoon and remove the bowl. Then I take the handle to grind and finish the rough edge before forming it into a ring with pressure from a vise, a ring mandrel and a rawhide mallet.”
Photographer, explorer and spoon rescuer, Eric spends his time tinkering and outdoor wandering. Each patch he creates is inspired by time spent in the wilderness and is designed to encourage others to discover the natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest for themselves. Eric also draws attention to forgotten flatware with his spoon rings. Each ring begins as a decorative spoon, has its bowl removed, is smoothed and polished to remove rough edges and carefully formed into the shape of a band. Some of the spoons he uses are over one hundred years old, which means they have stories to tell—hopefully some just as good as Eric’s. It’s his own explorations, after all, that inspired his line of adventurous patches.< less
