“Incorporating found components allows my pieces to have that vintage feel but with a modern aesthetic. I love knowing my components had a history, a story.”

You could say that Larissa is more of a hunter and gatherer of jewelry than a straight up metalsmith: She sifts through antique stores, “deadstock” warehouses and flea markets all over the world to find components that have more stories in them than at Grandpa Smith. Some of these findings are made from children’s books, vintage license plates or old lockets from the ‘60s. The beauty of this hunting and gathering method of jewelry making is that she’s doing the earth a pretty big favor by giving new life to the old. But artist alone she is not: Growing up in a small town in upstate New York, Larissa’s parents owned a store where she worked since she was old enough to polish an apple. That experience gave her the savvy to not only be a eco-conscious creative, but to start her own business from a young age. Sounds like the best of both worlds, if you ask us.
