"My prints aren’t just copies printed digitally. Every photograph is printed by me in my dark room."
Like the record collectors and Super 8 lovers who have come before her, Emily is a lover of a dying technology: film photography. Just very recently breaking down and purchasing her first digital camera, she still prefers the 12 others to shoot on film. Part of the fun is developing your own negatives and prints, mixing chemicals like a mad scientist. To fully embrace her craft, Emily built her own bathroom darkroom, where her well composed shots emerge as finished products. Although the digital camera and smartphones allow anyone to quickly shoot anything, anywhere, she doesn't—every shot is deliberate and thoughtful, not a frame wasted. Kind of the opposite of our admittedly frequent selfie habit.< less
