about The Matt Butler

“Each of the linoleum blocks I use to make my prints is carved by hand. Each mark I make with by carving tools is imprinted into the paper as it stretches around the block during the printing process. These marks are subtle, but they add depth and character that digital printing cannot replicate.”

Surround yourself with makers, and eventually, all that creative craftsmanship will rub off on you. Even if you’re a fifth grade teacher. Matt started taking printmaking classes at a local art center thanks to some inspiration from some creative cohorts and soon enough, the hobby became a passion and soon after that, a full-time gig. So where does THE Matt Butler get his ideas for prints? “My creative ideas usually come out of thin air.” That would be during conversations with friends, when something someone says triggers an idea or when deep in thought driving down the road, and something pops into my head. “I have a list I keep on my phone so I don’t lose the ideas because they are gone about as fast as they come to me!” Also: it helps to have AWESOME on his side. Seriously. Just ask him. show more
