Tomahawk Illustration

“The most challenging point of my process is the cutting of linoleum, staying precise while letting some of the natural tendencies of the medium to happen and balancing them to get that great handmade look.”

Tom’s interest in linocut illustration began at the Savannah College of Art & Design, when he discovered an interesting paradox: There’s a lot of freedom in this here antiquated method of printmaking. Why? He’s limited in the lines of shapes he can make onto the linoleum block, so he just has to “let go a bit and let things happen the way they want to.” The result is a super cool balance of intricate detail and handmade imperfection. We dig.
