"I won’t always use supplies I find right away. I have to let them marinate a little bit until a really good design idea comes to me.”
You might call Angela the jewelry listener. A metalsmith by trade, she believes in seeking out unique materials (when she travels bead shops and vintage stores trump local museums and beer bars)—then just letting them speak to her. It might take a while for inspiration to strike, so she stashes her finds, awaiting further instruction. (Stash does NOT equal hoard, for the record.) Her current obsession: brass tube beads. Once Angela laid hands on them, she began frantically sketching out different geometric shapes, playing with the placement of the joints and connecting them with precious metal wire. The result is a geometric sketch in wearable jewelry form. See, there’s a lot to be said for being a good listener.
