Gear & Repairs at Decatur Bikes
The Scoop: Whether you rely wholly on your bicycle as your primary mode of transit (enjoy those potholes), you simply enjoy riding it past your crush's house several times a day, or you're just a casual weekend cyclist who likes to start his or her Sunday morning with a quick 30-mile jaunt around the state, chances are you occasionally need to treat your loyal steed to a bit of gear. Whether that includes a hands-free water bottle, a fancy USB-chargable bike light, or a big, fluffy 'stache for your ride is up to you. You know where our vote is.
Scout Notes: Bike gear has come a long way since my days of revving up the ol' engine with some baseball cards in the spokes. Decatur Bikes, which just moved in next door to Sawicki's five months ago from Stone Mountain, is doing a darn good job keeping up with it all. Beyond the obvious (you know, the bikes), Decatur Bikes stocks the latest and greatest in cycling gear, apparel, on-the-go nutrition, triathlon necessities, and detachable facial hair for your bicycle's handlebars. Oh, and if you're planning a particularly long ride, don't miss the special Chamois Butter just below the check-out. You can thank us later.
From utilitarian (non-coiling cable bike locks) to playful (pink mohawk helmets), the shop is chock-full of stuff to make your two-wheeled excursions easier and more enjoyable. Call me a mindless child, but my favorite piece of merch were the bells, which come in all kinds of different shapes and sizes. Takes me back to my darker days in the 3rd grade bike gang. Yeah, it was a rough time, but I made a good recovery. And, of course, the bike store does have a mighty fine selection of -- you guessed it -- bikes. While most of the inventory is for fairly serious riders (i.e.: nothing with handlebar streamers), one can find a budget bike for around $250. Hey, once you stick a 'stache on it, strap on your mohawk helmet, and roll up that pant leg, no one will know the difference.
