Scout Notes: You might think your neighborhood barista has the latte down to an art form, but this cafe has it down to a science. No, really — the owner of World of Coffee & Tea studied chemistry before making the leap into starting her own cafe, so you can be pretty confident in knowing that she doesn't mess around when it comes to mixing up some goodness behind the bar. That goes for the kitchen, too: World of Coffee & Tea might sound like merely a place to get your daily caffeine fix, but thanks to a full kitchen in the back and Aida's lifelong love of baking, plenty of from-scratch pastries, flatbreads, and panini are there for the taking. So while most coffee shops consider any and all non-beverage items an afterthought, World of Coffee combines the best of both worlds... top-notch brews from our pals at Batdorf & Bronson, and homemade lemon cake, all at once. Does this mean we can finally have our cake and eat it too?

While I loved the rich, delicious caramel macchiato that Aida whipped up for me, it was equally enjoyable to sit down and chat with her, as she does with most of her customers. "I love meeting the people who come in here," she told me, just as much as she loves the chemistry behind coffee and baking. It's the warmth and friendliness of this place that keep people coming back — not just that homemade lemon cake. Though, you know... that certainly doesn't hurt.
