Zuma Sushi & Sake Bar (Toco Hills)

The perfect place for the aforementioned folks who want to ease in to this game slowly and get your sushi game plan together. Pick up those chopsticks with confidence... and you’ll be ordering those big hunks of eel in no time.

Scout Notes: Consider Zuma Toco Hills a gateway drug to hard-core raw fish sushi eatin’. This Zuma has a fuller, much larger kitchen, and they're not afraid to use it. Think more hot entrees and Korean influences, noodle bowls, and much more, so you raw fish noobs out there can indulge with your sashimi-indulging cohorts. If you’re not quite ready to explore the wild world of sashimi, with its big hunks of yellow tail and yummy, slimy eel, but you want to at least expose yourself to it and ease ever-so-slowly into the world of sushi-eating, you can order something like chicken teriyaki and shrimp tempura. Then, baby steps: maybe a California Roll or two. Sushi lovers, don’t fret: while this Zuma has amped up the menu to include more hot plates for your squeamish pals, you’ll still find your favorite rolls—favorites like the Zuma Roll (whole piece of BBQ eel on top of a roll filled with snow crab, mayo and avocado) and the Trust Me Roll (thinly sliced yellowtail and spicy mayo over a spicy tuna roll, torched) make an appearance from the Inman Park menu. And it's just as delicious.

The vibe in this Zuma location doesn’t ooze sex appeal like the original, but frankly, it doesn’t really need to. If you're feelin' it, you could surely don your three-piece suit or stilettos; but you'll also feel comfortable showing up in jeans and a sweatshirt, too. Twenty- and thirty-somethings, Emory students, and families roll in to get their sushi fixes; those that are of age wash it all down with a big glass, er, small cup of sake (promise: we always drink our sake in responsible quantities). Along with the specialty rolls, Zuma also offers some more “standard” roll combos and à la carte options. Like we said, it's the perfect place for the aforementioned folks who want to ease in to this game slowly and get your sushi game plan together. Pick up those chopsticks with confidence... and you’ll be ordering those big hunks of eel in no time.
