The Full Story: “If you’re not at least a little bit anxious every time you walk into your gym, you’re probably going to the wrong place.” So say the folks at BTB -- and the motto seems to ring true with all those who’ve caught onto the Crossfit craze. It’s become somewhat of a national phenomenon for adrenaline junkies, those who want to amp up a stale gym routine, or anyone who just wants a way to get in killer shape.

What is Crossfit? To break it down to basic elements, Crossfit incorporates three categories of athletic training -- gymnastics (using your own body weight), “met-con” (metabolic conditioning, AKA cardio), and Olympic-style lifting. It’s the principal program used by police academies, military units, martial artists, and hundreds of elite professional athletes worldwide. And though that all sounds pretty intimidating, it’s designed so that ANY body can participate. Though there is a fair warning: Crossfit ain’t for the weak of heart.

Catching onto Crossfit fever back in 2000, BTB owners Melissa and Jeff wanted to incorporate an indoor alternative to their already successful outdoor bootcamp. Once they introduced the method to their trainers, everyone was humbled. And hooked. The rest of Atlanta seems to be catching on too: Creative Loafing named BTB “Best Neighborhood Gym” this past year, Citysearch dubbed it “Best Workout” and Atlanta Magazine gets down to basics calling this “The Best Way to Get Back in your Skinny Jeans.” Sounds good to me.

This two-week introductory workout is your way to get a kick-start into Crossfit -- a hardcore tutorial to amp you up for the real deal. Test it out for yourself, learn the lingo, and get over any intimidation that comes with such a workout. You’ll quickly learn that everyone here, no matter the fitness level, is welcome and encouraged at BTB. Melissa and Jeff pride themselves not only on their clients’ amazing results (which there are many -- just look here) but also in the community of friends they’ve created. “We work out together, we play together, we celebrate together.
