The Scoop: It’s not just a vegetarian restaurant. It’s a method to world peace. And sure, that's a tall order, but it IS pretty impressive to know that almost the entire staff here is made up of volunteers. And what do they serve on the menu? Inner peace - which comes from all the delicious, organic vegan and vegetarian foods and calming atmosphere here.
Scout Notes: Sure, it does a body good to eat healthy, choosing vegan or vegetarian fare and local, organic produce. But what about the mind and spirit? The volunteers behind the counter at World Peace are strong believers in the mantra that “without inner peace, outer peace is impossible”. Which is why they've created this cafe, where a balance of healthful food and calming surroundings help provide that inner peace to the body - and the mind - even to the most casual of lunchers.
Like me for instance. Here I am, sitting in the middle of Sandy Springs suburbia surrounded by a Petco on one side, a Kroger on the other and (I’m guessing) a Starbucks somewhere in the mix. Yet I’m worlds away from all of it, feasting on a Peace Burger, sipping on a pot of Yerba Mate with Organic Agave Nectar.... I must admit, I'm feeling pretty zen right now. This place is completely soothing, I might just have to stay for some vegan cake as dessert. Because really, what's the rush?
Sandy Springs is lucky enough to hold the ONLY World Peace Cafe in the country, so folks around here are blessed with the option of starting their mornings off right here. If you're a really early riser, you’ll be happy to know the Cafe now opens at 7AM - perfect to get your organic jump-start with such teas or coffees and a powerful, nutritious breakfast. (I hear the vegan pancakes are a hit!) And for the rest of the late-starters? You're in luck too: breakfast is now served all day. And if you're already a World Peace regular, you'll be happy to hear they'll soon be adding new menu items, some long-time favorite specials!
Profits from World Peace Cafe Atlanta go to help build temples as well as meditation centers, retreat sites, and additional (sweet!) World Peace Cafes around the globe. It’s all about establishing more public ways to share the inner peace and happiness... and to think it all can start with a warm pot of tea and some tofu-scrambled zen.
