American (New), Southern
Briza's menu reps its Southern roots, but rocks an oh-so-au courant twist that matches its sexy environs. It might be the Baroque-meets-modern decor. Or perhaps the sky-high ceilings with floor-to-ceiling windows. But whatever it is, Briza gives off an air of sophistication that pairs quite well with Chef Janine Falvo's fresh take on seasonal fare. Briza's just the right kind of hip, upscale eatery that won't harsh your (handcrafted cocktail) buzz with an over-the-top atmosphere. Sleek as they may be, the surroundings don't have that unce-unce-unce vibe that many a modern Midtown lounge might reek of, and the menu is anything but pretentious.
Farm-to-table with a Southern flair, Chef Falvo's creations include an heirloom tomato salad with tomatoes from Taylorganics, a short rib with a vidalia onion puree, and a steak with foie gras creamed corn — a deliciously happy medium between adventurous, creative cuisine, and familiar, downhome fare. It's bold, but approachable; farm-to-table, but certainly not garden variety. Briza's menu reps its Southern roots, but rocks an au courant twist that matches its sexy environs. And Southern-meets-sexy is definitely something we can get behind.
