As the owner, Randy, describes, "At night, Carolyn's is somewhere between a sports bar and an Irish pub." Translation: it's a happy place.Jammed in traffic? Of course. We all are. (Good 'ol ATL.) Well, sir (or madam!), have I got an eat for you. Push, pull or drag - but preferably drive your car into the free (!) lot behind Carolyn's Gourmet Cafe in Midtown. Soak up the rarity of Midtown parking, head on in to hunker down with the best of your buds and wait out the 5 o'clock vehicular storm. This snug joint is already hopping during lunch, but also offers a veritable spread of solid, homemade pizza, sandwiches, salads, burgers and beers for your dining delights. Isn't it time to acknowledge the elephant in your commute? I know the cheerful 1920's-era brick building had always piqued the interest of my rush-hour belly rumblers. Carolyn's, henceforth referred to as "your new hangout", has a light, rustic, homey feel. But not so homey you have to use your inside voice. And not so rustic you'll wish you brought a moist towelette to sanitize the glasses. Nope - not here. It's hard to put your fork on what makes this ten-years-young establishment so inviting. As owner, Randy, describes, "At night, Carolyn's is somewhere between a sports bar and an Irish pub." Translation: it's a happy place.
After witnessing some first-daters, and regulars sharing chortles over a bucket of beer, I had to agree. Heck, the menu chalkboard declares: "The Key to Success is Positive Thinking", and the sandwiches boast encouraging names, like "Motivation" (Turkey Melt). Your new hangout is the type of oasis you schlep into after a rough day, kick back and order up a "Champion" (chicken salad sandwich) or “Nacho Mountain” (mountain of nachos). Your buddies trickle in to join you and maybe, just maybe, you feel a little better about the world when you leave. As one of the lads at the bar felt moved to exclaim, "Man, I love this bar." And who wouldn't feel a satisfied smirk sneaking up on them? Skip out on rush hour(s), score free parking and scarf down some positivity (and a brew or two) – you'll be hard pressed to keep that grin in check, too.
