We're betting none of those other dime-a-dozen froyo joints stock yogurt flavors like soursop, lulo, tamarind, and passionfruit alongside the cookies 'n cream. Hello, warm weather. We're ready for ya.It's like we're back in the '80s (and I'm not talking about the fact that Pat Benetar is still touring): frozen yogurt is back in a huge way. With froyo shops popping up on nearly every corner, it might seem like once you've seen one, you've seen 'em all. Until you walk in to Fruttela, that is. We're betting none of those dime-a-dozen froyo joints stock yogurt flavors like soursop, lulo, tamarind and passionfruit alongside the cookies 'n cream. How about laying out a spread of toppings that includes lychee, papaya and kiwis right next to your standard sweets? Nay, Fruttela isn't vanilla. (Though they do offer that for purists.) Then again, neither is the Old Fourth Ward, is it?
That's exactly why the owners set up shop on this particular stretch of sidewalk: they knew that their neighbors would dig something a little different. So, they decided to offer the 'hood a place where they could indulge their sweet tooth without plummeting into a shame-spiral. The frozen goods here are free of fat, hormones and guilt, and chock full of real fruit. The yogurt's made in-house each day in all its delicious flavors: a match made in heaven if we've ever seen one. Oh, and one more thing: Nutella frozen yogurt. 'Nuff said. Toto, we ain't in TCBY anymore.
