The menu at Chris' is stocked with Greek staples (think mousaka, Greek potatoes, souvlaki and gyros), but this place is not afraid to get creative and cook outside the (pizza?) box.Don't let the name fool you: there is a whole lot to love beyond cheesy pies at this little joint. For the past three decades, Chris' Pizza has been known and loved among Emory-area families just as much for its gyros, falafel, traditional Greek soup and some refreshingly nontraditional Greek-meets-Italian pasta dishes as it is for its (equally delicious) pizzas. And while many-a-strip mall hole-in-the-wall such as this one might be dark and windowless, diners here feast on falafel in a bright, airy, open space, lit from above by a skylight and bisected by a fantastically elaborate fountain and rock garden. It's as close as you can get to an indoor patio... or, as owner Akbar puts it, "like being on a Greek island!" We're guessing we probably won't be making it over to Crete anytime soon... but... oh, fine, we'll take a hot, melty Greek pizza as a consolation prize.

Akbar was proud to bring out one of the restaurant's signature dishes, one that you likely won't find elsewhere in Atlanta: the chicken special spaghetti. Sure, sounds like plain old noodles and chicken, but it's actually the result of playfully marrying Greek ingredients (feta, green and black olives, and so on) with the traditionally Italian pasta formula.
Know what else you might not be able to find at too many other restaurants in Atlanta? Brunch, Greek-style. On the weekends, early birds get a taste of eggs, feta, and mozzarella cheese, scrambled together and baked on a handmade pizza pie. Not exactly your average bacon and eggs kind of breakfast. But, true to its name, Chris' Pizza does right by the classic pizza, too: fresh dough made daily; a fluffy, but not too dense or thick, crust; and plenty of Greek goodness sprinkled on top. We happened to try the Greek Special, loaded up with tangy peppers, feta, and—much to our delight—strips of gyro meat. And you know that meat coming from a large, hot, spinning cone is the very best kind.
