What, you've never seen an ice cream shop housed in a stationary train car before? We haven't either, and that's why we immediately fell head-over-heels with the Frosty Caboose.
If you're a fan of small-town charm, locally made ice cream and a little quirky fun, get thy caboose to Chamblee with a quickness. What, you've never seen an ice cream shop housed in a stationary train car before? We haven't either, and that's why we immediately fell head-over-heels with the Frosty Caboose, which takes the traditional idea of an ice cream stand pretty far out of the box(car). The bright red traincar sits proudly on the side of Peachtree, right next to the real train tracks and a block or so away from Chamblee's awesomely quaint row of historic buildings, antique shops and more. Side note: have you explored Chamblee yet? It's ITP, only one or two neighborhoods north of Brookhaven, and bursting at the seams with character. And there's an ice cream stand inside a traincar up there. Need we say more?

There might not be anything in this world that brings out my sugar-crazed inner child like a good, old-fashioned ice cream stand—or so I thought. As it happens, combining an ice cream stand with a train? It'll take me months to come back to adulthood. But that's okay, because Frosty Caboose has plenty to keep this giddy five-year-old satiated. The stand serves shakes, sundaes and scoops of Greenwood ice cream, made literally less than a mile away right here in Chamblee. While you're there, you might as well make a meal of it and chow down on their hotdogs. Pam, who started the Caboose with her brother, tells me that many a family comes for hotdogs and ice cream, and sticks around to watch the trains (freight, AmTrak and Marta) whizz by. Sounds like a downright perfect way to enjoy and explore the 'hood. (Just don't be frightened if you spot my inner child gorging on a pumpkin ice cream shake and pretending to be Thomas the Tank Engine.)
