Ten out of ten canine culinary connoisseurs agree: the fresh-baked, from-scratch treats here are definitely worth sitting, speaking, and shaking for.Ten out of ten canine culinary connoisseurs agree: the fresh-baked, from-scratch treats here are definitely worth sitting, speaking, and shaking for. Taj Mahound's well-stocked display cases are almost guaranteed to result in tail wags, puppy dog eyes, and/or unsolicited tricks ("hey, look, I'm sitting! I'm sitting!"), thanks to the top-notch quality and drool-inducing ingredients that owner Krista puts together back in the shop's kitchen. A hand-decorated "Pubst" Blue Ribbon cookie for the hipster boozehounds? Perhaps a bag of bark-b-q K9 cookies or sweet potato grrrnola? Why not? After all, man's BFFs do deserve a little decadence, doggie-style.
Back in 2004, Krista started dabbling in the world of dog treats as a hobby and, eventually, an escape route from the corporate world. After she eventually decided to ride that gravy train to (dog) biscuit city, she landed a little storefront in Oakhurst. (It's right around the corner from Kavarna, in case you have trouble, you know, sniffing it out.) Soon enough, the neighborhood dogs were begging for more and more of Taj Mahound's "pea-mutt butter," doggie cannolis, grrrnola, and other delicacies fit for the most discerning of doggie gourmands. The treats are made right in the shop's kitchen, and are made with restaurant-quality ingredients, not the kind with questionable by-products, preservatives, and unpronounceable six-syllable additives. While you're there perusing the fresh-baked wares, you can also pick up some puppy swag from Taj Mahound's selection of collars, leashes, dapper apparel, and other various canine accoutrements. Indeed, whether you snap up some doggie doughnuts or rainbow-decorated Pride bones, a trip to Taj Mahound will inevitably result in plenty of tail-wagging from your loyal hound. And armed with a sack of those K9 cookies, perhaps you can finally teach him how to bring you a beer already.
