Renardo has a passion for soul food—and culinary arts. Whoever said the two were mutually exclusive, anyway? Get the best of both worlds with these Southern-inspired, rave-review-inducing edibles.Much like a book's cover, the unassuming, minimalistic interior of RC's Southern Cooking with a Twist did nothing to prepare us for the veritable treasure trove flying out of this kitchen on the reg. In early 2012, owner/chief cook/general culinary genius Renardo fulfilled his lifelong dream and opened the gem of a place. Much of his expertise originated from spending lots of time cookin' up some soul food in the kitchen with his grandmother—though his culinary arts degree certainly doesn't hurt. He's been cooking it up (it being yumminess) for several years at other restaurants, as a personal chef and, of course, at home. And at RC's we found the best of soul food and culinary artistry getting along quite deliciously.
Every hearty victual in the place is house-made, and served up by Renardo himself. And while we spied plenty of soul food (Soul Food Sundays, when he ventures off the regular menu, are dedicated to it), that's not all this snug joint is slingin'. Spotting a bleu cheese burger alongside a side of hand-picked, freshly chopped collard greens is no rare occurrence at RC's, there's a little somethin' for everyone. The Chili Slaw Dogs are a favorite amongst regulars who know what's up, but highly discerning guests will also discover a fine Spinach Salad drizzled with house-made grapefruit vinaigrette along with a slew of quality desserts. In summation: no cover judgin' allowed.
