With 120 flavors in rotation, during your first visit you'll likely happen upon Elvis' Breakfast, Cream of Joe or Black Raspberry. And if those, coupled with the 50-plus toppings aren't enticing enough—they have less calories than ice cream. (Yup!)Much like peanut butter slathered bananas, we're all over this froyo phenomenon—but, sometimes it just doesn't quite cut the custard when it comes to our desire for all goods sweet, frozen and creamy. Enter LoriBell's Frozen Custard—with their homemade, allegedly magical masterpieces, we're satisfying our hunger, by the bushel, by the barrel, by the ounce. Served up in a bowl, blended in a smoothie or atop a cone, these folks are prepping the goods any way you like 'em. Doug and wife Susan run the shop, which is inspired by Doug's favorite childhood hangout up in Indiana. (We hear this frozen custard deal is a pretty big one up north.) And now, the constable custard himself, is tinkering around in the kitchen, delving into the uncharted territories of frozen treatery.
With over 120 flavors in rotation, during your first visit you'll likely happen upon Elvis' Breakfast (that's the bananas and peanut butter we were talking about), Cream of Joe or that staple Nothin' But (plain ol' sweet cream, but it's doggone good). And if those, coupled with the 50-plus toppings weren't enticing enough, custard is actually a premium ice cream. We learned that while it uses a pasteurized egg base (which accounts for some of the splendid rich and creamy flavor), it means that overall, it requires less fat and sugar than conventional ice cream. Which means less calories. Which means we just found our new favorite fad diet.
