Imagine the open sea under a night sky. Feel that calm and comfort? Well, that's just what you'll find at this tapas bar, which has the vibe of a Midtown joint, but with even more martinis."You should feel better leaving than when you came." It's this deceptively simple philosophy that dictates how everything runs at Red Sky Tapas—which is like a well-oiled machine, by the way. A couple of middle school friends (we have on good word that they're adults now) are behind the joint, which is named for the warmth and happiness that come with being on the open water at night, with a (you guessed it) red sky. It's this feeling of peace and freedom that they hope to recreate for their guests—and they're doing a bang-up job. The space is swankily swathed in reds and blacks; it's upscale and comforting, but welcoming at the same time. One might almost believe that a little piece of Midtown had been airlifted to the Marietta.
A low-key tapas bar, Red Sky promises oodles of choices, and this mentality extends to the drink menu, too. A quick glance will reveal that there are no less than 40 martinis to choose from, and the most popular, named the Desperate Housewife, expertly blends peach schnapps, cranberry and pineapple juices. We, however, are particularly intrigued by the Irish Espresso, which consists of Three Olives triple espresso, Kahlua and Irish cream. But can you blame us? It's hard to find better complements to the medley of small plates to share. Instead of a mere selection of traditional Spanish tapas, Red Sky offers a more eclectic blend of Southern and Asian-inspired fare. This means that, in one fell swoop, we got to dabble in Citrus Barbecue Ribs, Roasted Corn + Lobster Dip and Plantains. We're feeling better already.
