Housemade sauce, homemade dough, a signature sesame seed crust and fresh ingredients make for an excellent pie, and those seemingly simple steps have helped make Mojo a favorite in the tight-knit 'hood.
We'd wager that the most accurate litmus test for feeling out the vibes of a neighborhood lay in visiting its local pizza joint. Friendly, laid-back and filled with locals casually dropping in for a slice and a beer, Mojo is 100 percent Oakhurst. We're not normally one to question the goodness of a neighborhood pizza joint, but when said joint's been doing its thing for 14 years, you know they're doing something right. The Oakhurst staple set up shop in the almost 100-year-old building back when new businesses in the neighborhood were few and far between, and has been the go-to spot for a slice and a beer ever since. Housemade sauce, homemade dough, a signature sesame seed crust and fresh ingredients make for an excellent pie, and those seemingly simple steps have helped make Mojo a favorite in the tight-knit 'hood. (That, and the fact that parents can unleash their kids while the grown-ups kick back with a beer.) No frills, nothing fancy, no "artisans" in the back slaving over the dough; just a good ol'-fashioned pub and pie shop.

While simple's the key word here, the pizza menu is creative: the Dixie Blue, a longtime staple, includes roasted chicken, smoked ham and gorgonzola; the Risin' Sun comes with pineapples, roasted red peppers and jalapenos; and the Mr. Pete is topped with breaded eggplant, roasted red peppers and basil pesto. Traditionalist carnivores will love the Hurricane, a meaty mash-up of a pizza with pepperoni, Italian sausage, mushrooms, peppers and onions. And just because Mojo's been around the block doesn't mean it's not keeping things fresh—it's recently added a few tasty new sandwiches to the menu. And if you really want to feel like an Oakhurstian (no bike, dog, or stroller required), saddle up to the bar with a beer and chat up some of the regulars over a slice of Dixie Blue while soaking up that good pizzeria mojo.
