After losing everything in Hurricane Katrina, Dionne moved here wanting to repay all of the kindness that was shown to her with her sweet skills. We're talkin' popcorn and pralines, made the old-fashioned way with fresh ingredients and lots of love.
Popcorn-makin' is one of those things that, just because we can try it at home, doesn't mean we should. Unless, of course, we're willing to settle for something subpar. See, we went to Miss D's and now nothing will do but Dionne's expertly seasoned, creatively flavored varieties. Yes, the professional purveyor of popcorn and pralines at Miss D's New Orleans Pralines has a deep love for the treats, which she can trace back to her childhood. It all started when she decided that the store-bought pralines she loved as a little girl could be creamier. And more consistent. And so, for the next 25 years (we like to imagine some sort of cooking/praline laboratory montage here), she patiently tweaked her recipes to perfection. And after Hurricane Katrina sent Dionne to Atlanta, this sweet shop was born.

She arrived at Sweet Auburn Curb Market with not much more than a pot, a spoon and a heaping helping of faith that this was how she could repay all of the people who helped her back onto her feet. But if the currency of that payment was in hugs and delicious snacks, we're the ones indebted. Dionne comes into work everyday exuding a passion for popcorn and pralines that we've never seen the likes of before. If it's any indication, the woman has invented over 400 flavors of popcorn, including strawberry cheesecake, cheesy jalapeno (her favorite, so far) and cajun-fried pickle. And she's just getting started. Of course, there are the pralines, too, featuring flavors like pecan, almond and coconut, all made with love, the old-fashioned way. As one regular exclaimed, after sauntering up to Dionne's warm and friendly shop, "Man! This cheese popcorn is the bomb." We're inclined to agree.
