We're in heaven, and it looks a lot like Colombia.After many a riotous Friday night, we've oft been caught drifting between one unsatisfying fast food joint after another. The results are not good. We know we'd be better off thinking outside the bun, which brings us to Tostones. This traditional Colombian place serves up lots of meat and fried goodness (sometimes together!), perfect for those, erm, late-night hankerin's. Yessir, every Friday and Saturday until 5 a.m., these folks unfurl the entire menu for our greedy, hungry bellies. If you're feeling overwhelmed, never fear, this particular dish is meant for two.
But even when we popped in around noontime, the place was bustling with regulars, eating more regularly sized meals. We saw people nibbling on Arepas Chorizo and sipping on passion fruit, mango and blackberry juice (made from pulp imported from Colombia). This isn't a place to sit quietly and whisper either. People were laughing and enjoying their lunches with friends... and probably raving about how tasty the food, or how the menu changes almost daily. Take the soup menu, for instance, which changes nearly every day. Rafael excitedly told us of the varieties we might stumble upon on different days: Cream of Carrot, Arroz con Pollo, Three Potato... We, of course, being the ambitious scouts that we are, settled on the Picada platter, and bite after bite of the grilled meat and crispy, warm empanadas made us fall even deeper in love with Colombian cuisine.
