It's been about a year since one weiner dog and his beer-loving human gave Alpharetta its first craft beer market. We're happy to report that, with the addition of flights, 16-ounce pours and more, it's only gotten better with time.It was a little over a year ago when Murphy, a dashing gentleman of the four-legged variety, brought Alpharetta its very first craft beer market, complete with growlers, over 30 brews on tap and—wait for it—free samples. And we're happy to report that, much like a fine wine or a vintage stout, Blind Murphy's has only gotten better with time. Of course, behind every successful canine entrepreneur, there's often a human helping out. (Opposable thumbs can do wonders in the business world, it turns out.) That human would be Dave, and he's working hard to make his vision of a laid-back taproom in Alpharetta into a reality. "We're certainly the coolest beer store I've ever been to," he chuckles, and we're inclined to agree. And not just because we're ardent supporters of dachshund-backed businesses.
We never thought we'd see the day where Alpharetta's beer scene was actually putting Decatur's to shame. But thanks to a few new legislative changes that make it possible to: a) enjoy a fresh-poured pint from Blind Murphy's in its brand-new taproom; and b) perhaps even enjoy a beer to-go (yes, you read that right) while strolling through downtown Alpharetta, the 'burbs are looking better and better. Indeed, thanks to some recent changes on the law books, anyone can now sip on suds poured right off the taps inside Blind Murphy—and thanks to a cozy, almost cabin-like vibe to the place, it's a joint you'd actually want to linger in to do said sipping. It is, in Dave's words, what Georgia's needed all along: a place where folks could gather 'round a flight of craft beers (or craft sodas, for the little ones), maybe catch a home-brewing demo on the weekend, discover a new brew of choice from the growler wall... and sip on a 16-ounce glass of it right there in the shop. Who would've thought Alpharetta would be our new favorite beer-drinking destination? Guess we have one particular dachshund (and his beer-loving human, of course) to thank for that.
