One taste of Amy's perfected red velvet cupcake recipe and that was all it took to convince these two cousins to take their shared passion and make a career out of it. And, incidentally, one taste was also all it took for us to become instant regulars. For many aspiring entrepreneurs with big dreams, it might take a lot of hemming and hawing for them to finally make the leap. But for cousins Amy and Catherine, it was as simple as a red velvet recipe—one that, after years of turning to her trusty baking mitts and oven for a little everyday stress relief, Amy had finally perfected. One taste, and that was all it took to convince these two to take their shared passion and make a career out of it. And, incidentally, one taste was also all it took for us to become instant regulars at Amy and Catherine's cheery little Oakhurst cupcakerie. (You'll see what we mean when you sink your teeth into that banana pudding concoction.)
Nowadays, with Amy helming the kitchen and Catherine acting as Chief Cupcake Marketer (a dream job we never even knew we wanted), the duo's cozy little shop is the icing on the cake of idyllic Oakhurst. In their bright, happy little sugar haven, they're serving up baked-from-scratch indulgences like salted chocolate caramel, Samoas, vanilla peach and one seriously good riff on banana pudding with a sweet, sweet surprise on the inside. Okay, spoiler alert: it's filled with deliciously ooey-gooey, old-fashioned nanner puddin'. And it's sooooo good. And the proverbial cherry atop this cupcake shop? Thanks to Amy and Catherine's combined backgrounds in the non-profit sphere and general do-gooder nature, these cupcakes often come with a cause. "Whenever we can, we try to give back to the community," Catherine told us, adding that as the business grows they'll be regularly partnering with charities. We couldn't imagine that red velvet or banana pudding cupcake could possibly taste any better—but the fact that we can feel good about indulging in one (okay, two) every now and then? That's what we like to call a sweet, sweet victory.
