The Graveyard Tavern

This here's some of the best food in this neck of the woods, and that's thanks to Chef Patric Bell-Good, who took the reins in the kitchen earlier this year and immediately gave the menu a liberal dose of his Southern culinary sensibilities.
When exploring the exotic wilds of East Atlanta Village, we have but one delicious morsel of advice: follow the black hearse. Specifically, the one parked right on Flat Shoals, prominently placed in front of one of our favorite bars in the 'hood. At first glance, Graveyard might seem to be the quintessential EAV watering hole (a little rowdy, a bit dark, with a couple tattoos and a healthy dose of don't-give-a-damn). But the part that might surprise a first-timer about this joint? Let's just say there's chipotle pimento cheese, seared scallops and chocolate-dipped bacon involved.

It's true: this here's some of the best food in this neck of the woods, and that's thanks to Chef Patric Bell-Good (previously of West Egg), who took the reins in the kitchen at the beginning of the year and immediately gave the menu a liberal dose of his Southern culinary sensibilities. Exhibit A: the Rebel Yell burger, a beefy behemoth smothered in aforementioned chipotle pimento cheese (homemade, naturally), Dr. Pepper barbecue sauce, bacon and fried pickle chips, already a crowd favorite for reasons that probably don't require an explanation. If that burger is the hootin', hollerin' redneck partier of the crew, then dishes like the salmon salad or the seared scallops on mushroom risotto are the Southern debutantes—classy, refined, but can still chug a pitcher of PBR with the best of 'em.

But out of all the menu additions, we're eternally indebted to Chef Patric for one glorious creation in particular: boozy milkshakes. Call us lushes, but there's just something about a peanut buttery, chocolate-y, whiskey-infused shake (topped with chocolate-dipped bacon, no less) that gives us the butter tingles in the best of ways. We're dead-serious.
