Dakota J's

50% off Dakota J's
From feminine frocks to tough-girl leather jackets, the garments hanging from Dakota J's shelves manage to encompass a range of styles as varied and eclectic as the well-dressed shoppers who frequent the boutique.
Trends may come and go, but true style? That's got serious staying power. Which probably explains why this stylish little shop has managed to remain a VA-Hi shopping destination for nearly two decades—an eternity when it comes to the ever-shuffling storefronts of this charming 'hood. For as long as we can remember, whether we've been outfitting ourselves for the season, dashing around town in search of a perfect gift, or simply in need of a little good ol'-fashioned retail therapy, we've always found ourselves returning to Dakota J's. For the past 17 years, this little boutique has been Virginia-Highland's funky, fun little treasure trove for all things girly and glam, and owner Terri and her creative counterpart Jennifer always ensure the store is packed with all kinds of fun accoutrements.

Let's be honest: we can't really count the number of times we've popped into Dakota J's to snag a quick hostess gift, only to re-emerge victorious with that present-worthy Votivo candle… annnd one or two things for ourselves. Or, you know, a whole outfit—who's judging? From feminine frocks to tough-girl leather jackets, the garments hanging from Dakota J's shelves manage to encompass a range of styles as varied and eclectic as the well-dressed shoppers who frequent the boutique on the reg. Terri and Jennifer's mission to stay local is best seen in the majority of their jewelry: cases and tables strewn with the work of local designers like Caro’s, Mindy Apple, Bou Cou and Snapdragon Studios, plus handcrafted baubles from artisans like Israeli artist Ayala Bar and Beverly Hills-based Charlene K. (whose delicate initial pendant necklaces are a cult favorite, both on Rodeo Drive and right here on Highland Avenue).
