This cafe & micro-roastery is all about keeping it local—so local, in fact, that each and every bean is roasted in small batches, right there in the shop. (That explains that ginormous contraption you'll see by the back door. They call her "Big Red.")After being in the coffee trade for thirteen years, Cool Beans has settled right into its role as the cozy, convivial living room of the Marietta Square. And while, yes, a certain global coffee chain may be slinging their frappelatteccinos right around the corner from here, we can assure you: it just doesn't come close to the high-quality coffee, friendly baristas and congenial, neighborhood atmosphere that this joint is rocking.
This indie cafe and micro-roaster is all about keeping it local—so local, in fact, that each and every bean is roasted in small batches, right there in the shop. (That explains that ginormous, bright-red contraption you'll see by the back door. They call her "Big Red.") Add to that the regulars who are on a first-name basis with the staff, and the local art hanging on the walls (when we last dropped in, we spotted the one-and-only Knifemen), and you've got yourself a coffee shop that's not just local—it's downright neighborly. In keeping with the idea of the coffee house as a social place, the vibe here is warm, welcoming, and open to all—think less hushed library, more a place to hobnob with friends and meet up with neighbors. And while the folks behind the bar take their craft seriously, they also keep things low-key. In other words, no barista here is going to throw you shade if you prefer a splash of cream in your coffee. Good people, good coffee and a slew of tasty baked goods stashed in the display case? Sounds like a damn fine living room to us.
