Armed with an arsenal of Intelligentsia beans and a pure and simple love for coffee, Urban Grounds has spent a decade focusing on serving high-quality joe in a comfy, living room-like space. These days, Atlanta seems to have more craft coffee joints dapper baristas and latte art than one could shake a tamping spoon at. But back in the coffee dark ages, before terms like "single-origin" had even entered the parlance of us coffee commoners, one cozy little indie shop in Avondale Estates was quietly doing their craft coffee thing—and now, ten years later, all those extra years of practice have definitely made perfect.
Armed with an arsenal of Intelligentsia beans and a pure and simple love for coffee, Urban Grounds has spent a decade focusing on serving high-quality joe (among the best in the U.S., some might say) in a comfy, living room-like space right on North Avondale Road. While the coffee is, of course, the crown jewel of this hidden gem, the foodstuffs are equally top-notch—in other words, no pitiful shrink-wrapped sandwiches hiding in a mini-fridge. Instead, the shop stocks a mix of regular staples, like the chicken salad sandwich and Bagel Palace breakfast sandwiches, alongside rotating specials like – be still our hearts – a delicious banh mi. We've come a long way from Starbucks, haven't we?
