But for us, this place is timeless. Walking in the doors of Altobeli's has to be the closest thing we Atlantans have to the old-school Italian restaurants of New York—like stumbling in from a Manhattan sidewalk into an underground Italian restaurant filled with thick accents, neckties, and the heady scent of homemade lasagna and chianti. There's something nostalgic and classic about Altobeli's, a place where Sinatra might've hung out with his Rat Pack buddies (that is, if Sinatra were to reside in Alpharetta). Yes, Altobeli's is the genuine article. And if you need any further proof of that, simply refer to the wall lined with photos and love letters from their adoring regulars.
The three dining rooms are wallpapered in framed photos of regulars and notes of appreciation from folks who love a joint where they can enjoy a plate of veal piccata before dancing the night away to live piano music. It's Italian of the old-school, where the tablecloths are white, the servers have been there for years, and the regulars have their own tables — and often, their favorite drinks — waiting on them as soon as they walk in the door. A place where you can lounge, sip on a martini, and listen to a pianist tickle the ivories while you await your saltimbocca (and ponder the possibility of showing off your moves on the dance floor). All in all, it's a local favorite for the folks of Alpharetta, but feels just like Little Italy... or Italy itself. And after a few of those martinis, you just might be convinced you're already in Roma—or at least miles away from the 'burbs.
