There are wine sommeliers, beer aficionados and coffee connoisseurs abound these days – but a vetted veteran of all-things-tea? That's a very rare breed. Luckily for us, Carine Bourgeois of the Roswell Tea House is a tea savant of the highest ilk.
There are wine sommeliers, beer aficionados and coffee connoisseurs abounds these days – but a vetted veteran of all-things-tea? That's a very rare breed, indeed. Luckily for us, for the past eight years Roswell has been host to a tea savant of the highest ilk. Carine Bourgeois delved into the leafy world of teas after years of working in the cosmetic industry. Always an advocate of the health benefits and wellness brought about by drinking tea, and with a growing passion for nutritious, fresh food – Carine followed her passions and enthusiasm to an intimate home less than a mile from Roswell square. Thusly, the Roswell Tea House came into being, and they've been serving up nutritional, tasty eats alongside a bevy (over 100!) of rare, delicious and healthful teas.

Walking into the tea house, we knew we could anticipate more than just an average tea for two. Just standing in the bright, convivial space soothed our nerves instantly. And once Carine served us up a pot of Ayurvedic tea? Well, we haven't felt that serene in years. Carine's extensive tea list includes recognizable favorites (such as Turkish Apple Tea or Plum Green) alongside incredibly rare, imported selections. Perhaps the most impressive is her array of Puerh teas – the only type of tea that is meant to be aged and can only be sourced from the Yunnan province of China. Its earthy aromas and sweet finish proved to be quite the calming revelation. (Especially when coupled with one of the tea house's Flourless Chocolate Earl Grey Tortes.) For those hoping to hob-nob with old friends – Roswell Tea House's high tea service is just the thing. Presented with a three-tiered tray overflowing with tea sandwiches and confections (cream puff dipped in warm belgian chocolate, anyone?) accompanied by unlimited flavors and refills of perfectly steeped bliss – well, there's no better way to pass the time. (Pro-tip: If it's high-tea you want, make sure to call ahead, especially on Saturdays, when tea service is seated at 11:30 a.m. and 2 p.m.)
