A bit of Pacific sunshine has sprung up in the heart of Midtown, bringing all of our California dreamin’ to fruition. With a menu that spans all the best eats the Best Coast can boast, Big Kahuna is certainly forging a name for itself. We’re all about our Southern eats, don’t get us wrong – but every once in a while we like to cash in our banana puddin’ and BBQ for a samplin’ of tastes from the Golden state. Lucky for us, a little bit of Pacific sunshine has sprung up in the heart of Midtown, bringing all of our California dreamin’ to fruition. Opened by a bona fide West coast ex-pat, Tom, Big Kahuna serves as a testament of everything there is to love about life in Surf City, USA. It’s an idyllic place where surfboards lean on the walls, surf photography bedecks the tables, the atmosphere is colorful and light, and – most importantly – the eats are deliciously fresh and flavorful.
With a menu that spans all the best eats the Best Coast can boast, Big Kahuna is certainly forging a name for itself in Midtown. Have a hankering for some real Cali Mex? Look no further. Between their tacos and fajitas – you’re as good as gold. (We’re especially fond of the lime-y avocado flavors of the Tijuana street tacos.) And of course, there’s the restaurant’s namesake: the Big Kahuna Burger. Sporting American cheese, tomato, lettuce, sweet onions and their signature ‘Kahuna sauce’ stacked higher than a 80 ft. wave on an 8 oz. beef patty – we imagine this is about the only meal that could satiate our hunger pains after a full day of hanging ten in Mavericks. But what to wash it down with? Not to worry, it wouldn’t be the sunshine coast without the appropriate libations. Big Kahuna sports a variety of enlivening spirits, such as their infamous Strawberry Smash – made with strawberry purée, strawberry vodka and a splash of champagne. Yessir, walking into Big Kahuna off of the bustling streets of Midtown is just the Californian retreat we were dreamin' of.
