Parrillada del Plata. Rough translation? Mountain. Of. Meat. And if the protein thang isn't for you? Well, you'll find plenty of breakfasting and baked goods at this Uruguayan and Argentinian joint.Meat Mountain. For years, we've listened, misty-eyed and hopeful, to rumors of its existence. And here, at Sabores del Plata on Buford Highway, our wildest dreams were confirmed. For at this Uruguayan and Argentinian steakhouse, there's meat. And a lot of it. The Parrillada del Plata in particular, is what had our protein senses tingling. Layers of vacio (flank steak) and tira de asado (short rib) are met with more layers of pechuga de pollo (chicken breast) and molleja (sweetbreads). All crowned magnificently with (of course) more meat—chorizo, morcilla and chinculines beckon to us with their sweet spices and grill-seared skins. As the owner told us, "Meat is a very big part of both cultures." At this steakhouse – that seems like an understatement.
And if meat's not your food group of choice, Sabores offers plenty of others. Heck, the place is also a bakery, churning out layered cakes and chocolate-covered (read: resplendent) cookies. Though most of their cuisine centers around the Uruguayan and Argentinian staples, you'll also find South American takes on other, more European-inspired dishes. Including some pretty solid breakfast-time options. And when you come in, with your families and friends—you'll find a welcoming and friendly staff, and an atmosphere that's perfect for catching up and winding down.
