We rather like to think that with Pi-Bytes, Darrell Sprattling is exploring an unknown food genre: that of adorable and delicious hand-held pies. (That we just simply can't get enough of.)Darrell Sprattling had wanted a spot of his own for some time. (He contracted as a firefighter in Iraq just to save up to open his dream restaurant, as a matter of fact.) So as soon as he got back stateside, Darrell and his wife got to work testing recipes out with their family in Stone Mountain, diligently developing a menu and business plan. They had just about everything they needed – except for desserts. Mr. Sprattling found his fate in the form of a single-serving sweet potato pie, a pie that his family, friends, neighbors and, well, community just couldn’t get enough of. Soon after he invented a few other signature pies: Tequila Lime, Bailey’s Bourbon White Chocolate Pecan, and even an Amaretto German Chocolate Cheesecake. Thusly pi-bytes was born, and they’ve been a staple in Stone Mountain ever since.
But Pi-Bytes is more than just a lounge where we can indulge in the sweeter things. To round out the menu, they made some worthwhile additions: pizza and wings. The pizzas? They’re made to order, comprised of whatever fresh ingredients they have on hand. Pepperoni, sausage, green onions, mushrooms, olives – whatever topping you’re hoping for, they’ll serve it on up. But let’s not stop there. The wings (specifically Darrell’s signature Sriracha Lime Wings) are worth writing home about. Fearful of the spicy heat the name implies? No need. Darrell is a firefighter, after all. Yup, he invented the recipes for these bad boys at Camp Merrill where he still works as a Federal Firefighter. Their spice is perfectly complimented by their sweetness – so we’ve got trouble eating em three at a time and then stopping. Paired with a Tequila Lime pie? Well that’s just a combination that cannot be beaten.
