Serving up a large variety of fresh, authentic Northern Indian fare, this place offers a plethora of vegetarian options, as well as lamb and even beef. For best results, wash it all down with a mango lassi. Especially the jalapeno naan.We hear of a place where the biryani is piled high, the tikka masala is spiced just right and every single dish is prepped fresh and made to order. That's right, a hub of Indian fare without a buffet. Rejoice! And despite having a decided air of class (they change the silverware in between courses), they don't charge first-class prices. Each dish is chock full of fresh ingredients, and Heart of India offers a plethora of vegetarian and tofu options that don't taste, well, vegetarian. "Our goal is to serve healthy, fresh food in a family environment," manager Shah explained. And that they have. The family members (of which there are many) who run this restaurant create a truly warm and welcoming environment—an environment that has already garnered them a devoted lunch following despite being relatively new to the space.
But it makes a delightful dinner spot as well, ideal for unwinding and sampling a tempting array of Northern Indian cuisine. Unlike many other authentic Indian places, Heart of India has a large variety of mouth-watering menu items, including beef. Regulars gush about the steaming plates of lamb biryani and eggplant bhorta (that would be eggplant, cooked in a clay oven, and then sautéed with tomatoes, onions and bell peppers in a spicy, thick sauce). But us? We're more intrigued by the Chili Naan, a peculiar naan with a kick of jalapeño. Wash that sucker down with some mango lassi, and we're ready for the next course.
