As we all know, there's a whole lot of tasty goodness being created right here in Atlanta. We want to share the love, but as it turns out, mailing a container of High Road Craft ice cream to your grandmother in Florida can be a messy affair.

So you can imagine our delight when we stumbled upon Local Market South, a new online market for all the local goodness getting served up in the South. High Road Craft ice cream, Pine Street Market meats, and jams from Emily G's are just a few of the handcrafted goods available on Jennifer and John Maley's new website, which they started just a couple weeks ago out of a shared love for local food. "We wanted the story of the people and the food in the Southeast to get out," Jennifer told me. She added that many of these purveyors are starting to receive national press, meaning that a sweet-toothed New Yorker reading about Sugar-Coated Radical's tobacco chocolate will finally have an easy way to taste them without getting on a plane. The food ships directly from the purveyors, made and packaged to order. And yes, they offer out-of-state shipping, which means you can finally send Grandma six pints of High Road's bourbon ice cream (for best results, pair with three pounds of Pine Street's applewood bacon).

We dig Local Market South for spreading Southern goodness around the world (well, around the U.S. for now). As much as we like to keep this good stuff all to ourselves, we're happy to share the local joy around. And keep an eye on the site as the inventory grows to include cheeses, grits, grains, and condiments. We're always down for a special cheese delivery.
