Admit it: you're a sucker for jewelry. Okay, so maybe we're projecting just a tad, but who couldn't fall for this lovely lady we found through The Asian Cajuns? One look at her adorable baubles and delicate trinkets and we ended up with more than a few impulsive purchases on Etsy. Not that we're complaining, considering her pieces are actually quite affordable too. We took a quick minute to chat with June Shin on this week's Creative Eye:
SCOUT: How would you best describe your work to someone who’s never seen it before?
JUNE: I create delicate jewelry, incorporating different charms with semiprecious stones.
SCOUT: What made you pursue this passion? Or at what point did you realize “this is what I have to do”?
JUNE: I was looking for a creative outlet and signed up for metal classes at the Y in NYC. When I moved down to Atlanta, I had a lot of free time, so I bought a book, some beads and wire, and taught myself to make jewelry. It was fun and I love learning new things, so I kept at it and signed up for more metalsmithing classes.
SCOUT: Where do you get your best ideas?
JUNE: Mostly I get my ideas from my materials and just playing around with them.
SCOUT: And where do you go to unwind?
JUNE: I like to hang out at local coffee shops with my laptop to do some work while doing a little people watching.
SCOUT: Sweet, sounds a lot like us! So what's your favorite “curious find” in Atlanta?
JUNE: I don’t know if this is considered a “curious” find, but I love all the bread from Maum Bakery in Doraville. They have all different kinds of bread that is just so soft and delicious! I just wish they had a location that was in town.
SCOUT: Yums! And finally, who are some other local Atlantans that inspires you or your work?
JUNE: There are so many great local artists here, but to name a few: Jessica Gonacha, Alex Locke-Norton of Lil’ Sprout Knits, and the Asian Cajuns!
