This past Tuesday's vote left behind a few casualties, none more notable than the TSPLOST transit proposals. Some voters didn't like the projects on the agenda, while others weren't thrilled with a sales tax increase. Regardless of their views, the Nays outweighed the Yays and we have sent TSPLOST off to a better place. RIP. (Tell Aaliyah we said hello.)
One thing that we can all agree on is that Atlanta's traffic situation is still in desperate need of a remedy. With TSPLOST dead and buried, what's the next cure for our city's roadway congestion? We're still facing excruciatingly long commutes, a growing smog problem and the loss of potential new businesses who are turned off from setting up shop in Atlanta. We first suggested pennyfarthing, segway, or rickshaw, but we're told these aren't exactly viable options for zooming around the perimeter. So, we asked you, our opinionated (and imaginative) Scoutmobsters: after TSPLOST's defeat, what's our next traffic solution?
"Move?"
-Peter Sexton
"Getting rid of a car, becoming 1-car family."
-Beth McKibben, @TheLazySusan
"Bring in The German Deutsch Bahn Engineers to help us design and improve the entire Georgia transit system. Qatar just did it and almost everyone who needs transit improvements gets it—except the USA."
-Melody Beacham
"Lazy river."
-Leah Forsythe
"Synced stoplights... and human slingshots."
-Martha Dixon, @noturauntmartha
"Most major cities have quite the toll to get into town. Atlanta needs to charge more! That would motivate OTPers to support large scale transit."
-Brian Baj
"Live close to work. Live close to MARTA. Both if possible!"
-Andrew Conkling, @andrewski
"Pizza. The answer is always pizza."
-Ryan, @mayanrelic
