Being a part of “The Process” is about being excited about the collaboration of many minds and different talents. And being a true ATLien is about working hard and playing hard to bring as much respect to our town as possible. You’ve probably peeped their signature Chief Nokahoma logo on t-shirts and telephone polls, or met them during a recent Plywood People event like we did. The minds behind The Process go beyond fashion design; so if you are an aspiring Atlanta creative trying to make a big idea happen, then take note. This diverse group of cool Atlanta dudes are making things happen in our home-sweet-hometown:
SCOUT: Tell us how fellow Atlantans might know you?
TP: One of your friends might have one of our tees in their closet or you may have seen our crew bullying the foosball table at The Local.
SCOUT: Describe "The Process" to someone who isn’t familiar with the brand:
TP: Our brand is called “We Are The Process” officially, and “The Process” for short. The Process is all about finding joy in the journey of creating something tangible. We once had a design teacher tell us, “Enjoy the struggle, it’s the best part.” And we’d have to agree with that statement 100%.
SCOUT: I might agree 110%. Tell us who makes up the “WE” in “WE ARE THE PROCESS”?
TP: The “We” represents anyone who feels connected to our vision. Ultimately, we create these clothes because we want to have something from our perspective, the Dirty South, that we want to wear. There are tons of brands from NY and LA that you could choose to associate with, but we realized how phony that would be, trying to pass ourselves off as skaters from Cali or hipsters from Williamsburg. We’re design nerds from Atlanta and we love our city. So anyone who believes in the potential of this part of the country, yet realizes the hard work it takes to get from point A to point B is part of “The Process” to us. So when we say “We,” we mean everyone.
SCOUT: Where in Atlanta do you draw inspiration or get new ideas?
TP: We draw our inspirations from local culture, sports aesthetics, and from our diverse backgrounds. There are three of us invested in this brand and we’re all from different parts of the South:
Jorge Menes – Cuban, from New Orleans; Georgios Saliaris – Greek from Orangeburg, SC by way of Greece; Larry Luk – Chinese from Arlington, TX.
Somehow we all found Atlanta and fell in love with this city. We’ve all lived here for numerous years and it’s our brand’s homebase. If we’re ever in a creative rut, we get new ideas from each other. We love Alfred Hitchcock movies and whiskey. We have competitive FIFA matches on PS3 and we argue about who is better all the time! It’s never difficult to come up with creative ideas when we are around each other and doing what we love.
SCOUT: Atlanta's our brand’s homebase city, so we feel ya on the love for its diversity. And I’m no stranger to whiskey bringing out some interesting creative ideas. If you had to, could you pick your favorite project you have done thus far in Atlanta?
TP: Many people don’t realize this, but we also run a creative agency, EC Design Co. (http://ecdesignco.com) that helps pay the bills. “We Are The Process” is a side-project that is a real world example of how we can help build a brand for one of our clients. So, in a way, “We Are The Process” has been one of the most enjoyable projects for us since it’s our own. You can see our client portfolio at
ECDesignCo.com.
SCOUT: Y’all live and breathe the passion behind F.I.L.A. Where in Atlanta do you go to kick back and relax with good drinks and good company?
TP: The fine folks at The Graveyard Tavern, The Local, and El Bar always taking good care of our crew. If it’s during the day, we try to have meetings at Octane. It seems to be a melting pot for creatives in this city. We always run into good friends when we spend time there. If we’re just looking for a place to run our mouths and spend time with good people, we hang out at our favorite store, Standard. The culture there has developed into a brotherhood where we can be open about anything. There is a lot of value in that kind of hospitality that you’re not going to find in your favorite streetwear boutique in NY or LA. Also, if we need to stuff our faces, we hit up DBA Barbecue and are always met with a cold Shiner Bock upon arrival.
SCOUT: Tell us your favorite “curious find” in Atlanta?
TP: ScoutMob! Started right here in the A! Keep crushin’ it, guys. And if you’re nice to the vampire-people at FedEx Office (Kinko’s) by Lenox Mall late at night, you can usually get your copies for free, or for a severe discount because they would rather not ring you up (too much trouble for a vampire).
SCOUT: Thanks for the love, it’s totally mutual. Is there another local Atlantan that inspires you or your work?
TP: Jason Heyward! He’s gotta win Rookie of the Year.
SCOUT: Finally, throw out a shameless plug of where people can go to check out more of your creations:
TP: Our gear is available online at WeAreTheProcess.com And in person at: Standard in Atlanta.
