There are many reasons to love the Atlanta Fair at Turner Field. For one, it’s been around for 31 years. That’s longer than the structure that we currently know as Turner Field. Of course, the main reason to love the fair is funnel cake, and the bright lights, classic carnival games and dizzying
Part 1: Rides
One of the fair’s most thrilling attractions (other than the funnel cake) is its rides. If you choose to board only one ride at the Atlanta Fair, we strongly suggest that tried and true romantic standby, Peachtree Rides’ Expo Wheel. Soaring to a maximum height of 75 feet, the Expo Wheel lets you take in a panoramic view of the festive fairgrounds and the city that lies beyond them from your own private “gondola.” Just don’t call it a Ferris wheel.
If you feel ready for some of the more intimidating fair rides, our main tip is to go with someone you feel close to emotionally. Because you’re probably going to end up pretty close to them, physically. You never know what can happen when you’re letting a massive metal contraption mess with your sense of gravity.
Part 2: Games
The best way to determine whether or not you should try your hand at one the fair’s many trials in depth perception and eye-hand coordination is to look over the prize offerings and decide based on those. Animal prizes are tempting (especially since they’ve added a baby goldfish alternative!), but highly perishable. Save yourself a painful flush and go straight for the good stuff. And by good stuff, we mean the hot pink inflatable mallets, giant sock monkeys and various Rastafarian banana options. Also, picking a game where there’s a prize every time is a good way to protect your self-esteem.
Part 3: Snacks
Obviously, the two words to remember when it comes to fairground snacking are “funnel” and “cake.” Whether you see these words together or separately, you’re most likely in for something delicious. If you must eat something without these keywords in its name, try to stick to the specialty booths rather than booths that haven’t quite pinned down their snack identity yet. If fair fare isn’t your thing, drop by Wednesday night for the final Wild Food Truck Fight, where you can cast your vote for your favorite Atlanta food truck.
Part 4: Restroom Facilities
AVOID AT ALL COSTS.
And that’s basically all you need to know about fair-going. Get out there and make us proud!
