Dietary restrictions? Ain't no reason to shy away from a swell night out on the town. And for the gluten-sensitive among us, dining out doesn’t have to mean chowing down on a plate full of rabbit food while your friends enjoy a plethora of delightful delicacies, unless you just really like lettuce and carrots. A lot. Luckily, us ATLiens are pretty spoiled when it comes to gluten-free (or friendly) options for lunches, dinners or (just) desserts. (Even beer!) So whether you've got a big evening planned, or you're just grabbing some grub with the buds—here are some places that pass our gluten-less taste test:
Right inside Sweet Auburn Curb Market you can find Lis, serving up a whole slew of Venezuelan goodies (like smoky black beans and shredded beef) nestled in between two grilled cornmeal patties. They may be a gluten-free eat that's worth dying for, but we still don't recommend that you do.
Bantam + Biddy
The brainchild of Shaun Doty, this modern take on a comfortable, casual diner offers up a bevy of gluten-free options. Options which aren't limited to vegetable platters (thought they have those, too). Instead, nosh on some classic dishes like Bangers and Mash or Fried Chicken Tenders. Or if you’re lookin for some home-made cookin, just like momma made it, try the Meatloaf. Made with White Oak Pasture’s grass fed beef, smoked tomato gravy and a choice of two sides.
The Iberian Pig
Whether you're in the mood for tasty tapas or exquisite entrees, this hub of modern Spanish cuisine is well-versed on the needs of the gluten-less. These folks put together an entire menu just for you. ¡Olé!
Sally's Gluten Free Bakery
You read that right. This whole bakery is gluten-free, son. Any morsel you get a whiff of as you walk though the door, you'll be able to eat. And yes, that includes those famous chocolate-chip cookies. Try a mini-loaf, fo' free.
Good Grub Subs
The g-free subs here include local bread piled high with Boar's Head meats and prepped with super-special dedicated equipment. Talk about eatin’ fresh. And hey, why not get half off while you're at it?
Good Karma Coffee
Here they use a dash of culinary artistry, along with the best gluten-free flours, to whip up some of the most delectable waffles, biscuits and chai tea muffins around. And there are lots of vegan options, too. (Psst. Snag a deal while you're there.)
5 Seasons Brewing
Two great things here. And they're both at cringe-less prices. First: gluten-free beer (a hoppy pale-ale for you brew-o-philes). Second: Gluten-free Mondays, wherein there are an assortment of options, including their signature gluten-free pizza.
There ya go, folks. A glorious assembly of gluten-less goodness all across the city. Now go sink your teeth into some new food to suit you gluten-free soul and enjoy a local deal, on us.
