Summer is synonymous with bonfires, camping, soaking up the sun and well, s’mores. That magical combination of graham crackers, marshmallow and chocolate that leaves us sticky and happy. Well, Malvi Marshmallow Confections, helmed by the one and only Laura Curtis, is turning the s’mores game on its head with her unique flavored confections.
After launching a successful Kickstarter campaign May 2013, it became clear that Laura's was onto something with her marshmallow mission – Malvi was so readily embraced by the online community that she surpassed her funding goal. Thankfully, this allowed her to expand her molten sugar fluff cubes empire and squish 'em between two shortbread style cookies. (That's our kind of empire.) These days, her flavors include Jamaica chocolate, espresso chocolate, vanilla caramel, red velvet, among others. Her current dream is to introduce a citrus flavor — think key lime and orange — so we are hoping those tiny fluff cubes cooperate soon. Each marshmallow cookie sandwich is made by hand with all-natural flavors — a win-win if you ask us. She will be partnering up with Honey Bubble for some new flavors before long, too.
While she works on her latest confections, she let us in on a few secret pairings and hacks you can get into this summer.
Pro-tip: For optimal flavor, warm up your Malvi Marshmallow in the microwave before ingesting. Got access to a bonfire? Wrap it up in foil and throw it on the pyre for a few seconds – the results will be melty, gooey and delicious.
Spiked Espresso Malvi
Grab a few espresso malvi marshmallows, packed with bold flavors like coffee liqueur and dark chocolate, and add them to a pan with butter and rice krispies for some tiramisu-like rice krispies. An adult twist on a childhood favorite.
Raspberry Hibiscus Malvi
Pair up the original Malvi, bright fruity flavors squished in between dark chocolate cookies, with some fancy prosecco or rosé for a unique dessert when you are dining al fresco. Or even better, spread some nutella on top of it. We won’t tell anyone.
Blueberry Pie Malvi
With a milk-chocolate cinnamon cookie and violet-colored blueberry flavor, this malvi is best paired with a glass of milk or even better a shot of espresso to offset the sweetness and help you get ready in the morning.
