Folksy Brews
Bigthumb2

If there's one thing we love, it’s well-deserved after-work libations. That, and Betty White. (But that's another topic for another time.) It's our love of beer that called us to dive a little deeper into such drink-making processes and see just how local brews can be made... at home.

Introducing Folksy Brews, a local site founded by a local (folksy) brewmeister name Mike. The aim is to “expand the knowledge of herbal beers, mead, cider, and country wines resulting from the inventive exploration of historical brewing methods and locally-sourced ingredients and traditional/medicinal herbs.” You can read more about the process or, better yet get your own hands-on lesson with Mike. He educates you on the history, the fun, and the future of homebrewing. And in the future, you may be able to purchase some of Mike's country good mead when production begins at Montaluce Winery later this year.

We made our very own batch of mead this weekend (which is a honey wine that is said to be the first alcoholic beverage ever, enjoyed by the Egyptians and Vikings) and some Mugwort Honey Porter in the beautiful Oakhurst Community Garden. Not a shabby way to spend a Saturday afternoon. So now, we're awaiting the fermented results. And when that day comes, we'll plan on toasting to our new level of beer love. And Betty White will totally be invited.
