Dubbed the city’s #1 comedy theater by The Austinist, Coldtowne features a platter of improv, sketch, stand-up and classes to satiate your bloodthirst for humor.Austin is defining itself as one of the hot cities to catch comedy in and there is no place better to see or become up-and-coming talent than at Coldtowne Theater. Dubbed the city’s #1 comedy theater by The Austinist, Coldtowne features a platter of improv, sketch, stand-up and classes to satiate your bloodthirst for humor. Founded in 2006 by Hurricane Katrina evacuees, Michael Jastroch, Arthur Simone and Justin York, Coldtowne offers a nesting place for performers, writers and appreciator of the arts to come together and support one another.
Walk into Coldtowne and you’ll notice its punk-rock atmosphere. Most of the theater was built out of found material; theater seats, couches, an old bar and curtains fill the small space. Pictures of current and past troupes adorn the walls and the feeling of blood, sweat and tears emits from the room. A lot of talent has passed through these doors and a lot of talent currently calls Coldtowne home. Improv troupes such as The Frank Mills and Midnight Show, Scout, Bad Boys and The Team regularly perform as do sketch troupes the Hustle Show and Hot Property. If you’re feeling envious of their comedic talents, don’t you fret! Coldtowne also offers classes to hone your funny skills.
